Why Does One Drive Keep Saying the Upload Is Block and I Need to Save a Copy?
-
I have uploaded around 100GB of data to OneDrive and information technology'southward not until recently that I realised that was the reason my free hard drive space was shrinking! *duh*
OneDrive is integrated into my File Explorer and I thought once I moved something to in that location it merely went to the cloud. I now realise this isn't the case and don't have very much difficult deejay space left. I have mapped OneDrive to a Network Bulldoze so that I tin can admission that and changed my registry editor so that the OneDrive binder is no longer in my explorer merely it is still taking upwardly the space. How can I delete the local copies of the data without deleting them from OneDrive as they are now but in the OneDrive folder??
I know it's Christmas but delight help if you can this is so abrasive.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!!

Ok, when I disable this, I can still acess my files using the onedrive app correct? also, can I then delete these off my surface?
I guess I select unlink? I still want to save all my files from this device to one drive, but I do non desire to save my 1 bulldoze to this devices hard drive.

No. Once you finish syncing the files you'll need to go to the web (onedrive.alive.com) to either upload more files to a not synced folder or download a file you are looking for.
This is because someone at Microsoft got kicked in the head by a horse or something and decided to rid Windows ten of placeholders. Because of this I pay for cloud service somewhere else to upload my images rather than get the free space offered by onedrive. I as well went back to the sometime fashion external hard drive route. Its sad 80s technology (external difficult drives) works amend than Microsoft's 2016 cloud service.

Yes in windows ten now... Not like this in 8.ane.... but I thought I read that placeholders might be coming back or at least bring reconsidered.
I hope information technology comes back... Like I similar how photos app accesses online pictures to evidence them to you, but you don't take to download them in total. I like photos app for that, all my devices pictures visible in any device

Aye, it'southward incredibly dumb. Removing placeholders and the OneDrive app in Windows ten makes OneDrive much less handy.

Sync the folders you need and not everything. I have 350GB in my onedrive account merely I have only synced i folder of 20MB on my surface 3. Whenever I need a particular file I head over to the website and go information technology, simple.
placeholders was confusing for a lot of people hence the conclusion to remove it.

When the doorknob was introduced I'm sure there were some that plant it disruptive. However, they eventually got information technology and at present you can find doorknobs everywhere. It was stupid of MS to rid Windows 10 of placeholders. It makes their Ain Surface line of products useless because of the tiny hard drives.

Hey dzinger, this drove me basics for a long time. What is the point of deject storage if it takes up your difficult drive? Non to mention that OneDrive is constantly "syncing" and using up precious disk space and computing ability. Luckily afterwards literal days spent on this trouble. I managed to put together a somewhat reasonable solution.
1. Using Internet Explorer (actually), become to https://login.microsoftonline.com; enter your user proper name and password and select keep me signed in.
2. Click on the square in the upper left manus corner and select OneDrive from the drib down menu.
iii. One time in OneDrive, select internet options from the upper left hand corner. Under the Security tab add the URL to the trusted sites list. If there is an option to choose a security level (depending on which version of explorer you are using) ready it to everyman for trusted sites.
v. Click return to classic OneDrive in the lower left hand corner.
6. Click into the folder that you wish to have bachelor on your PC (or tablet, or whatsoever).
7. In the OneDrive settings menu brand sure that the ribbon is turned to on.
8. On the ribbon, under the Library heading click on open up with explorer. Leave the resulting window open.
nine. Open up a new explorer window and correct click on This PC on the left hand side. Select Map Network Drive.
10. Select the choice (should be at the lesser of the pop-up box): Connect to a Website that you can utilise to store your documents and pictures. When given the choice, select: Choose a custom network location. When you lot are asked to enter the network accost utilise the address contained in the window you opened from OneDrive.
xi. Bada Bing! You can at present use OneDrive as an actual cloud service. The files are not located on your computer; you can cut and paste files from your calculator onto OneDrive and visa versa and they will exist located on 1 or the other, not both. If you lot delete a file from the OneDrive folder information technology deletes the file stored online. In that location will be no syncing and no storage use on your device.
The folder will be a network path, merely I like to create a shortcut to my desktop. This tin can be a bit tetchy. If your binder is not opening: endeavour logging in to office 365 and navigating to the binder in OneDrive. It should ask you to verify that you trust this site. If non, practise the security procedure described above again.

It is and so complicated. Like most people I have onedrive to save space on my PC. I have abode videos going back 30 years on there - so a lot of data.
I have been trying to upload some recent stuff and it but will not go every bit it hangs.Microsoft have said today that if you want to upload more than 15GB you can't easily. Why practise not they tell people that before they sign up and pay?
So they say add together onedrive desktop app. I don't remember the downsides are going to be worth information technology as I certainiliy don't want all the stuff on the cloud storage which is there to save space on my PC coming back to my PC. I like things separated and not synced either.
So what a mess. No easy quick way to use my cloud storage. I could only upload final years 2017 photograph files past doing it scrap by bit which took ages. To do other fabric which is much bigger I simply don't have the fourth dimension. Also my ane drive is already one-half full. What is the use of that and if I want more storage I cannot just buy it. I accept to buy and take other products and stuff I don't want.... I should have kept the VHS tapes afterwards all!02-04-2018 05:44 AM

WOW! I think some people do not read the question... so let me put it out in that location myself. I want OneDrive to make Backups of files on my drive for security in case something gets deleted or the hard bulldoze dies!
NOW, Here is the Trouble. I select 160GIG of music files AND My USER Binder to have backed up over fourth dimension. Boring? yeah, simply that is okay. BUT, Earlier it backs upwardly to the cloud, It MAKES COPIES OF EVERY DANG SELECTED FILE In a folder on my LOCAL difficult drive! And KEEPS them! Sure I can change what bulldoze and folder information technology uses, Buy WHY THE HECK would I desire Duplicates of 160G OR More of my files on my Own LOCAL drives? I could accept done that myself without using OneDrive.Your cloud suggestion is interesting, but a MAJOR pain to ready up and use. Why can't OneDrive just requite ME the pick of merely copying those files to the OneDrive cloud? I DO NOT WANT TO DELETE MY FILES on my LOCAL hard drive, I just want a SECURITY fill-in! I just desire them somewhere besides in my business firm in case of some disaster or quite bluntly if I desire admission to those somewhere else without having to drag an external HD along with me! (Yes, I know large flash drives are bachelor... But not a 1 TB flash bulldoze.)
If Microsoft cannot do that, then I volition have to apply something else. But the idea that I have to keep files duplicated on my drives to have them backed upward and synced is pretty dang ridiculous!04-02-2018 01:54 PM
